Planning Questions:
Are you working by yourself or in a team?
I'll be working in a team with Addella, my friend who also happens to sit right next to me- which will make this project easier.
What materials will you need for your project?
A green screen, Ipad or Shooting equipment, editing app, props, and people.
What is your plan to create in this project?
After carefully looking it over and looking at our recourses, we decided to do a weather report for our local area and shoot that using the green screen.
What unique qualities will your project have?
It will be full of humor- but still be professional, will be edited to make it fun and interesting, and will be done by none other than 2 middle school girls instead of an educated news reported on TV.
The day the project was assigned, we had decided on the cardboard project. We had worked on the website, finished the format, and interested all the planning questions. But, even after planning it all we were presented with the fact that the 7th graders had been working on it, and we weren't allowed to at this time.
Today we had to quickly decide on a new project, so after looking at the classroom equipment on our teacher, Mr. Renner's website, we decided on doing the green screen and shooting a weather report for our area. We set up everything for the website and made a plan to start the shooting first thing after typing practice on Monday.
Today wasn't exactly spent shooting and more spent assessing materials we didn't know of beforehand. It was a tad bit hard to get my partner to co-operate, but at the end of the day we had a better understanding of the green screen and how it's supposed to function. Tomorrow will definitely be spent recording- even if we don't feel like it.
Today we finally started the recording process, we got a couple of tests done but many of them were flawed and had to be cut out, (whether that be for mistakes, coming off topic, or other things). We now have a plan for tomorrow, have broke down how we believe we'll be doing this, and are prepared for our next day on the project.
Today after our lesson with Mr. Renner we went to take a few more shoots. These went pretty well, and we came to the conclusion that we wouldn't be able to make this recording completely professional and serious. So, to make it stand out and shine a little sprinkle of variation on there, we'll be making it more directed to humor instead or directness and quickness along with professionalism. This overall went pretty well and made the job much more enjoyable and much easier in the long run.
Today we thought would be the last day of the project, turns out it wasn't and the teacher ended up giving us extra time today. I'm pretty grateful. we've finished all of our recordings and now have to blend pieces and cuts together with Imovie, then we have to find out how to us ethe green screen to give us a news like background to make the report all the more realistic and make the project finally complete.
Today we started editing the video and changing it so it would piece together more smoothly, then we finally figured out how tom put a background with the green screen- it's not the best background you could ask for, but it's not terrible either! I'd say for the skills we have and know of and the recourses we had at hand, we did fairly well.
Today we didn't do too much, as we didn't have much to do and supposed we'd do most of the work on the last day and fit it in then. After all, all we have do do now is fill out the paragraphs and add some touch ups to the video to make it more appealing to anyone watching it at the time. It sounds like a lot, but I don't think it will take that long in retrospective.
My partner wasn't here today, and she's the one who's supposed to work on the video and smoothing it out. I'll try to put in the paragraphs and writing parts on my part, but I can only hope that the website and writing bits are going okay for her. I know that's something she can struggle with from time to time. If it does come down to it, I'll help her with website and we'll switch roles and assignments for the project. Before I save this, I'd like to add that today I finished almost everything I need to on the website, all that's left now is to upload the movie and add the necessary pictures for the daily progress.
Reflections:
Using the class green screen and Imovie, I created a weather forecast featuring me and Adella, because I believed that it would be a fun and creative hands on project simulating real life and jobs all around the world. People watch the news daily to see the same report with different aspects to keep them watching, so we decided to make it a bit more fun while still keeping it professional for the sake of the project. Not to mention, I did this because I've always wanted to use a green screen to see what it's like editing, streaming, and filming different movies and videos. Overall, I'd say I learned a lot from this project and the fun we had has most defiantly been considered when I think about the quality of the time we spent doing this.
During this process, I learned how to make a green screen function using Imovie, how to edit and blend scenes together to the best of my ability, and how to cooperate with other and their ideas on an on set area. All of these things will most definitely be beneficial in real life and in other careers. Whether they be simple functions I've learned using technology, or fundamentals in working with a team. All of these things are somehow someway proven important..
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to the creative communicator category because in this project, it's crucial that you use your creative skills to make something different and unique. Filming and making movies or television shows all have to have creativity, all have to be unique, or everyone we either not bother watching them or would only watch one, considering they're all the same. Too add to the fact, you need to be able to communicate and work with a group of people without causing arguments over disagreements and not shutting down their ideas entirely because you don't think you want to do it. Having and learning good communicative skills will help you in these types of situations, which commonly arise in filming, editing streaming, and in group projects in general.
A challenge I overcame on this project was being a good cooperator. I've struggled with this a lot in my life, hence why I usually work on alone projects. During my team projects, I have a bad tendency to take lead and control the entire thing. Yes, it usually turns out perfectly, we get a good grade and life is well but I've been considering if it may have been better, more unique, more creative if I had let other people help. So working on being a better cooperator and communicator would definitely benefit me in both school and real life. I was able to do it by simply listening and biting my tongue back from simply denying other ideas. It took some self restraint to listen to ideas I didn't completely like, and it was hard to even try them as based of what I had predicted, it would fail. This time, although rare coincidence, it didn't fail and it actually made a perfect ending scene to our weather report. It inspired me to listen to more of my partner's ideas as she'd edit the video and shape in together, and it turned out very nice, creative, and overall a enjoyable report. Lessons were definitely learned in this experience, and I believe the creative communicating skills will benefit me more in the real world.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change how seriously I took the project. The reason why I would change it is because, yes, you should take high grade assignments and other projects of the sort seriously, but not overly seriously- which is another bad habit of mine. I believe that if I let myself have more fun, we would've created an even better report that day and I would be more satisfied with the end result. I say that because at the end of the day- it's not just the grade that will matter but how you treated and enjoyed the entire experience. If you got a good grade but didn't enjoy the experience, it won't be nearly as rewarding as enjoying it and getting a good grade. It think they both matter just as equally.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project connects to the Digital Multimedia CTE program at Hastings High School. The project itself has so many aspects tying into this, and it's some piece of the media we see just about daily- weather reports. What would we really do without them? Even I don't know, it would be hard to imagine what it would be like ton plan your trips, to wea your clothes, to prepare for the day. It's simple, but I believe it's one of the most useful tools one could use in their daily life. It definitely can change how things run in your life- for the better of course.
My project connects to careers in acting, speech, and reporting because all of these jobs require being on camera, talking, being brave enough to show it to the world in confidence that you did well and the people will be satisfied with what you did. Whether you're in film, speech, or simple reporting, your acting. People act a certain way to fit the standards and please people daily. Whether they notice it or not, but in the end none of us are as professional as we act on television or at work, no one is as funny and go-lucky as they are at school. No one's as timid and frantic as they are during movies and filming. Being on camera and being watched in general causes a lot of pressure to be put on you. It makes you feel like everyone is watching you, and your constantly being judged. Only for some this is true, and it's really a completely normal feeling. What projects like the green screen weather report project we did today does is help you subside that feeling and feel more confident in yourself as people watch you from either around the world or right from your area. Your best friends, your teachers, and complete strangers. If you confident and believe in yourself in the end the result of the film you'll get is better than it could've been during another project in which you we're constantly self conscience..
