Day 1
I watched tutorials to learn the basics
Day 2
I brainstormed for what I will make
Day 3
I made a game select system.
I completed game 1, Random Number Picker
I completed my final game, or moreso tool, calculator.
I used the Microsoft Micro:Bit along with my computer to create a game and a calculator. I wanted to experiment and see what I could accomplish using a microcomputer. Through this project, I learned more about programming and how small devices can perform complex tasks.
During this process, I learned how to effectively use variables in my code. I discovered how variables can store and change information, making my programs more flexible and efficient. This skill helped me write cleaner code and better understand how programming logic works.
The seven standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project connects most closely to the Computational Thinker standard. I created a free game and calculator that demonstrate problem-solving and logical thinking, and they can be used by many people.
A challenge I overcame during this project was figuring out what I could create using the Micro:Bit. At first, I wasn’t sure what kind of program would work best on the device. I was able to solve this problem by watching tutorials and learning from examples.
If I had the chance to do this project again, I would change the game I created. Right now, it feels too simple and a bit boring to play. I would try to make it more challenging and engaging by adding new features.
Hastings High School’s Career and Technical Education Program offers a variety of pathways, including Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, and Marketing. My project connects to the Computer Programming CTE program. It relates to this area because I used coding skills to create a game and calculator on the Micro:Bit.
My project connects to careers in software development because it involves creating and coding digital tools. I designed a game and a calculator that function through programming, which reflects the kind of work software developers do. This experience helped me understand how coding can be used to build useful and interactive software.
I acknowledge that I used Perplexity AI to assist with writing and editing the written portions of this project.
