Our internet filtering system has now been replaced, and our old Sophos UTM (Unified Threat Management) has been replaced by a new Opendium UTM. We have also upgraded our internet connection from 500Mbps to 1Gbps.
In order to use personal devices on the school WiFi, students now need to install a certificate to allow their device access to the internet through our new web filtering system. This is to ensure we meet all safeguarding expectations in accordance with KCSIE (Keeping Children Safe in Education) and the UK Safer Internet Centre. The certificate only allows us to monitor and log internet traffic whilst connected to school WiFi. It cannot monitor anything once you have disconnected.
Any iPads or Chromebooks managed by school should automatically have the certificate installed with the school management profile
Staff and guests/visitors do not need to install the certificate on personal devices.
Please see the instructions below on how to get connected, and then see the Opendium Certificate page to find out how to install the certificate on your personal device.
If you are using WiFi in Sixth Form or the English Block, you will need to connect to 'Haslingden High WiFi' and sign in with your network username and password. If you are having issues connecting, then 'forget' the WiFi network and log in again.
The system in use in Broadway and Greens Lane has not changed and you should connect automatically.
If you have a guest/visitor coming into school who will need WiFi access please let us know and we can arrange it for you.
What are we doing?
We are starting to replace our existing WiFi system and are moving towards a new system that allows both staff and students to sign in with their devices by using network logins. We are also replacing the old Apple TVs with the latest models, and wiring them directly into the network, rather than having them on WiFi. This should hopefully improve the reliability of the Apple TVs.
Why are we changing it?
Our current WiFi system is reaching its end of life. It is reliant on a single WiFi 'controller' which is no longer supported by the manufacturer, so we need to start replacing the WiFi before this controller fails.
When is it being changed?
The English Block has been updated during the Summer Holidays 2020. The Sixth Form has been upgraded during the Summer Hoildays 2021.
HELP!
Poor Signal Strength
Please let us know where in school you are struggling to get a good signal, and we can run some tests and look at adding in extra Access Points.
I can't connect
Disconnect from the WiFi, 'forget' the WiFi network, and switch your device on and off again. If it still won't connect please contact IT Support and we will help you get connected.
