Students will prepare for college-level research expectations by developing a research question in a field of interest, learning how to use a search engine for peer-reviewed journals, and citing sources using the appropriate format for the field. They will practice these skills by conducting group research and presenting their findings. Students will then use their research to write an independent research paper.

Unit Overview
A crucial aspect of post-secondary writing is the ability to market oneself. In this unit, students will practice persuasive writing by creating a virtual resume that they may use to market themselves to higher education institutions and the workforce beyond. Students will first work to write a strong resume, cover letter, sample interview responses, and a personal essay of introduction (such as a cover letter or introductory email) that can be used to market themselves effectively to both colleges and potential employers. Students will engage in mock interviews to practice speaking skills. Students will be asked to choose between creating a video, slideshow presentation, or a website that highlights aspects of their academic career and personal skills in a persuasive manner.
