This is the Atomic model he made in 1997

This is the Plum pudding atomic model. He named it that due to it looking like Plum pudding(maybe he was hungry at the time).

As so can see he believed that the atom was positively charged and that it had  negatively charged electrons inside it  

The cathode ray tube 

J J would shine a light trough a sheet of metal and it would go straight through. However, occasionally the light beam would shift but the go back to normal. this led him to believe that atoms were positively charged and the electrons inside were negatively charged bouncing around inside the atom.
