ESL CLASSES

Our ESL instruction at the Hartford Adult Education Center is designed to meet the needs of adults with various levels of English proficiency. We offer instruction for English Language Learners who are:

• Beginning English learners or newcomers

• Intermediate English learners who are demonstrating improved proficiency

• Advanced English learners who are nearing English proficiency.

• Long-term English learners who may sound like native speakers but benefit from ESL strategies to further develop academic skills

Our ESL teachers provide in-person instruction as well as online learning support options to improve your technology skills as part of your study of English. You will learn to navigate programs such as Google Classroom with your assigned laptop. Your learning will be enhanced with specialized software programs that adjust to meet your individual needs.

Your goal may be to improve your English literacy skills in order to find or maintain a job. Your purpose may be to make personal gains in listening, speaking, reading and writing so as to be more confident when interacting within your community or with your children’s educational experience. Whatever it is, you can feel certain that the personal support at the Hartford Adult Education Center will meet your needs.

Classes at Hartford Adult Education Center are free. There is no cost for enrollment, instruction, or ESL materials. Vouchers may be provided for our students’ transportation. There is an initial placement test and a test at the close of each trimester to evaluate your progress within the ESL program in listening, speaking, and reading.
