Week 6 and Hurricane Hustle: On our last day of practice we did our final laps for bracelets. Everyone did such a great job persevering in the heat doing their best to meet their personal lap goals. We ended the season with the Hurricane Hustle. Kids did about an miles and a half around the high school athletic fields and woods trail. It was a great end to the season! In other news, our Penny Wars fundraiser was a huge success and we raised $308.23 for VINS, which will be matched by Finding Our Stride for a grand total of $616.46! Our runners presented the winning class to the whole school and ended by saying the oUR PACK pledge. See the video below. Thank you all for a wonderful season!
Week 5: On Monday this week, Ms. Amelia led us on a mile and a half run through the woods, around campus, and down through the cemetery. Everyone was pretty tired at the end, but they were feeling very accomplished and proud of themselves! They enjoyed this run so much that we did it again on Wednesday. We stopped at the fire pit in the outdoor classroom to do some guided breathing before finishing our run. We ended practice with a game of red light, green light, and sharks and minos.
We also picked our community engagement activity. We will be hosting a penny wars fundraiser at school next week, and the kids decided that they would like to donate the money to VINS.
Week 4: This week we did some distance runnning and did laps around the school. Kids ran laps around the school for about 20 minutes. They practiced lots of perseverance! After we got to play a cool down game of drip, drip, drop which is always a crowd favorite.
Week 3: The rain kept us inside today for practice. Runners played games in the gym before hitting the hallways to run some laps! The one time they get permission to run the halls of OQS- they had fun and ran quite a bit.
2nd Practice: We started off today's practice with a handshake greeting. Runners worked with a partner to create a fun handshake. During practice, we did stations with lots of running: running the bases, relay run, and steal the cones.
Week 2: On Monday, we play Follow the Leader. We split the runners among the three coaches and followed the leader around. One group ran around the cemetery, while two groups hit the woods trails. On Wednesday, the runners participated in a scavenger hunt in groups of 2-3. The clues took them all around the building: baseball fields, soccer nets, up the big hill, TOOLS trail, swing set, balance beam and even up the play structure. We ended practice with a game of Sharks and Minnows.
1st Practice: Today we kicked off our Spring season with 20 students grades 1-5. During the practice, we completed our first Bracelets for Laps. At the beginning and end of each season, the runners run around the field for 10 minutes, collected a bracelet for each lap completed. The goal is to run at least 1 more lap at the end of the season than at the beginning. As a collective, our 20 OQS runners ran a total of 103 laps!
