Guiding Questions: What is hot?
How have you experienced a heat transfer to you and away from you?
What happens at the microscopic level when hot and cold objects interact?
When an object is hot, how is it different from when it is cold?
When hot and cold objects interact, they collide and energy gets transferred. Heat energy flows from objects that are higher energy to objects with lower amounts of energy. Particles of hot objects behave differently than cold object particles.
