This is the first course in the Computer Science Pathway. Students will be introduced to numerous computing concepts. Students will explore multiple disciplines of Computer Science through fun and engaging puzzles and challenges. Students will learn the JavaScript programming language as they build apps that can be deployed directly to their phones. This course is based on Code.org’s CSP curriculum. “Code.org is recognized by the College Board as an endorsed provider of curriculum and professional development for AP® Computer Science Principles. This endorsement affirms that all components of Code.org CS Principles’s offerings are aligned to the AP Curriculum Framework standards and the AP CS Principles assessment” (Code.org). The class is designed to meet the College Board AP CS Principles requirements and students may receive college credit by receiving an appropriate score on the AP Exam (Note: At University’s discretion). Students receive 1 year of credit on the UC/CSU A-G list.
This is the concentrator course in the Computer Science Pathway. Students learn to program using Java, one of the most widely used programming languages in the world. Projects in this class include: learning to manipulate images such as changing a picture's color scheme, making a Chatbot, creating a card game, and creating their own text adventure. The class is designed to meet the College Board AP CS A requirements and students may receive college credit by receiving an appropriate score on the AP Exam (Note: At University’s discretion). This class may be taken as a math or a practical art class. Students receive 1 year of credit on the UC/CSU A-G list.
