Thank you so so much for the sweet gifts, messages, cards, and hugs for my birthday and for Christmas! I am so blessed and grateful for you all! Your heartfelt gifts of appreciation were amazing. I am so grateful to be your child's teacher.
Thank you to our sweet volunteers who are coming into our classroom! If you would like to volunteer, please let me know! I would love to have volunteers during our center times from 10:00-11:30 daily. Please let the office know if you would like to volunteer at any capacity on our campus. They will give you a background check first, and then will let me know when you can come into our classroom to volunteer! Thank you so much for your sweet offers to help our class already!
EVENT PARKING:
If you pick up your student at the end of the school day in the event parking lot (on the north side of the gym) please promptly pick up your child by 3:10pm.
Morning Routines:
Students may be dropped off at school 7:45am and after to have a nice recess time with friends on the playground before coming to school.
Memory Verse

A test will be given on Friday, January 9 to see how well your student can remember this verse. This will be placed in the Gradebook. Remembering God's Word helps us in so many areas of life. I will help your student remember the words with actions and guidance, during the test. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Please continue to discuss the school wide memory verse: 1 John 1:9 with your child. We will continue to have discussions about this verse in class too. "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness." 1 John 1:9

Your child is able to order Hot Lunch, and White Milk or Chocolate Milk. Please don't forget to email me when your child is having Hot Lunch and their milk preference before 8:15am. Thank you!
Your FACTS account will be charged for your child's hot lunch orders.
DRESS CODE
Please check the HCS handbook for the dress code rules. Your child will be talked to with an administrator if they are not in dress code.
Please be mindful of the dress code at our school. A full explanation of the dress code is found on P. 9 in the Parent/Student Handbook. Before your child leaves for school, please check that their shorts (6' inseam for 3rd and up) or skirt (for girls) are not too short, their shirts have sleeves and are not too short to show the midriff if their hand is raised, and that they have close toed shoes on. Leggings/bike shorts are only permitted for K-4th grade if the shirt is long enough to cover the bottom. Thanks for your help!

ICE CREAM:
Every Friday, our HCS 5th Graders will sell ice cream for 1 dollar. This is a fundraiser for their Hume Lake trip that they will participate in! Thank you for your willingness to support them!
SPIRIT WEAR: On Fridays, your students are encouraged to wear their HCS shirts and outfits! When your child wears their spirit shirt, they will get entered into a school-wide raffle for a prize.
OUR HOMEWORK:
High Frequency Words (Sight Words) /Math Facts
Letters Uu and Hh:
We will be learning how to form the letters Uu and Hh in class, and will continue to learn all about this letter this week. I would love to partner with you to help you work at home with your child on this letter writing.
MATH FACTS: 0+1, 0+2, 0+3, 0+4, 0+5, 1+1, 1+2, 1+3, 1+4, 2+1, 2+2, 2+3, 3+1, 3+2, 4+1, 3+0, 1-0, 2-0, 3-0, 4-0, 5-0, 1-1, 2-1, 3-1, 4-1, 5-1, 2-1, 2-2, 3-2, 4-2, 5-2, 5-3, 4-3, 3-3, 3-2, 3-1, 5-4, 4-4, 4-3, 4-2, 4-1 (A test will be given with these Math Facts that is timed for 3 minutes.)
*During the week, we will be practicing these Math Facts that are mixed addition and subtraction. On Monday, I will send home a practice sheet. Please practice with your child. These Math Facts are facts we have already learned. A timed test of 3 minutes on these Math Facts will be on January 9.
Please help your student learn these facts by memory by showing them items from home that they can add together. For example, 5 cheerios, and then subtract 4 on the plate, and 5-4=1. Other items that can be used are M&Ms and toys as well. Please practice these facts orally and physically daily to help your child remember them. 4 is a number that is very important in Math. The subtraction song we sing: Place hands in front of you, and then say "Subtraction is when you have this, and then you take away this (placing one hand behind you, while one hand is in front of you), and you have this left over."
NUMBERS 0-10: Please continue to practice these numbers. These numbers all start at the Strawberry Line and I would love to partner with you to help your child write these numbers from the top of the line. Please let me know if you have any questions about this. Our songs:
1: Come right down and that is all to make the number 1.
2: Curve around and slide to the right to make the number 2.
3: Curve in and around again to make the number 3.
4: Down, over, down some more to make the number 4.
5: Down, around, put on a hat, to make the number 5.
6. Curve around and curl it up to make the number 6.
7. Slide to the right and slant it down to make the number 7.
8. Make an S and close the gate to make the number 8.
9. Make a circle and then a line to make the number 9.
10. Make a one and then a zero to make the number 10!
HIGH FREQUENCY WORDS: us, cut, but, full
Our test on these words will be on Friday, January 9. The students will be asked to orally read out loud these words for a grade in the Gradebook. Please email me if you have any questions about this and I would love to partner with you! One fun idea is to have your child find these words in the church bulletin, and circle them and read them aloud. Another idea is to have your child go on a Hide and Seek hunt for these words in the living room. They can be on flashcards, and your child can find them and say the word aloud as they find them in your house. These are words we have already learned and this will be a test to see if your student knows them long term, and can recognize them in sentences.
Penmanship: A penmanship rubric for our daily handwriting in Kindergarten through 2nd grades was sent out. This rubric will be used from now on, and your child will receive their penmanship grade in their folder on Mondays for the previous week. This will create a standardized penmanship grade that the students can understand clearly and achieve well. Please let me know if you have any questions about this penmanship grade.
Optional Show And Tell and Daily Mail/Reading
*SHOW AND TELL: On Friday, January 9, bring in an item that explains how you enjoyed your Christmas break. You can ask your parents to email a picture to me and I can show it on the screen, or you can bring in an item that shows how you love to celebrate! This will create a fun class family sharing time for us to learn about each other's celebrations.
OPTIONAL IDEAS TO CREATE A HOME AND SCHOOL CONNECTION:
Daily Mail: Please write a sentence (with the guidance at home that I talked about during conferences) to me, illustrate it, and then share in front of the class. (We have a nice mailbox in our classroom where the students love to place their mail. They can tell you all about it!)
Daily Reading: Please bring one of the books back that I sent, after reading it with your parents, and then your child will read it in front of our class.

What we are learning!
Bible: Unit 11: Jesus as a boy: Jesus begins His ministry: Jesus' Baptism
Math: We are in Math Unit 3. As you see worksheets come home with your child's math work, please help them practice forming the numbers and the quantities. You will see worksheets from Math Expressions coming home this week. We will continue learning how to identify and write the numbers 0-10.
Reading: We are practicing identifying the letters in our names and writing our names, and learning letters Hh and Uu! Please practice letter Hh and Uu identification and recognition and formation. You will see Superkids Letter Hh and Uu worksheets coming home this week!
Writing: We will be working on writing the letter Hh and Uu!
Social Studies: We have begun learning the past and present.
