Memory Verse
MEMORY VERSE:
"For He spoke and it came to be; He commanded and it stood firm."
Psalm 33:9
A test will be given on Thursday, December 18 to see how well your student can remember this verse. This will be placed in the Gradebook. Remembering God's Word helps us in so many areas of life. I will help your student remember the words with actions and guidance, during the test. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Please continue to discuss the school wide memory verse: Psalm 33:8-9 with your child. We will continue to have discussions about this verse in class too. "Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the people of the world Revere Him. For he spoke, and it came to be; He commanded, and it stood firm." Psalm 33:8-9.

OUR HOMEWORK:
High Frequency Words (Sight Words) /Math Facts
LETTER Hh:
We will be learning how to form the letter Hh in class, and will continue to learn all about this letter this week. I would love to partner with you to help you work at home with your child on this letter writing.
MATH FACTS: 5-5, 5-4, 5-3, 5-2, 5-1 A test on these Math Facts will be tested on Thursday, December 18.
*During the week, we will be practicing these Math Facts that are mixed addition and subtraction. On Monday, I will send home a practice sheet. Please practice with your child. These Math Facts are facts we have already learned. A test on these Math Facts will be in January when we come back. You are welcome to work on these with your child over the break.
Please help your student learn these facts by memory by showing them items from home that they can add together. For example, 5 cheerios, and then subtract 4 on the plate, and 5-4=1. Other items that can be used are M&Ms and toys as well. Please practice these facts orally and physically daily to help your child remember them. 4 is a number that is very important in Math. The subtraction song we sing: Place hands in front of you, and then say "Subtraction is when you have this, and then you take away this (placing one hand behind you, while one hand is in front of you), and you have this left over."
NUMBERS 0-10: Please continue to practice these numbers. These numbers all start at the Strawberry Line and I would love to partner with you to help your child write these numbers from the top of the line. Please let me know if you have any questions about this. Our songs:
1: Come right down and that is all to make the number 1.
2: Curve around and slide to the right to make the number 2.
3: Curve in and around again to make the number 3.
4: Down, over, down some more to make the number 4.
5: Down, around, put on a hat, to make the number 5.
6. Curve around and curl it up to make the number 6.
7. Slide to the right and slant it down to make the number 7.
8. Make an S and close the gate to make the number 8.
9. Make a circle and then a line to make the number 9.
10. Make a one and then a zero to make the number 10!
HIGH FREQUENCY WORDS: had, has, his, hot, get, let, tell, well, fast, if, off, of, got, not, at, sit, is, did, it, its, I, a, and, the
Our test on these words will be on Thursday, December 18. The students will be asked to orally read out loud these words for a grade in the Gradebook. Please email me if you have any questions about this and I would love to partner with you! One fun idea is to have your child find these words in the church bulletin, and circle them and read them aloud. Another idea is to have your child go on a Hide and Seek hunt for these words in the living room. They can be on flashcards, and your child can find them and say the word aloud as they find them in your house. These are words we have already learned and this will be a test to see if your student knows them long term, and can recognize them in sentences.
Penmanship: A penmanship rubric for our daily handwriting in Kindergarten through 2nd grades was sent out. This rubric will be used from now on, and your child will receive their penmanship grade in their folder on Mondays for the previous week. This will create a standardized penmanship grade that the students can understand clearly and achieve well. Please let me know if you have any questions about this penmanship grade.
Optional Show And Tell and Daily Mail/Reading
*SHOW AND TELL: On Thursday, December 18, bring in an item that explains how you love to celebrate Christmas with your family. You can ask your parents to email a picture to me and I can show it on the screen, or you can bring in an item that shows how you love to celebrate! This will create a fun class family sharing time for us to learn about each other's celebrations.
OPTIONAL IDEAS TO CREATE A HOME AND SCHOOL CONNECTION:
Daily Mail: Please write a sentence (with the guidance at home that I talked about during conferences) to me, illustrate it, and then share in front of the class. (We have a nice mailbox in our classroom where the students love to place their mail. They can tell you all about it!)
Daily Reading: Please bring one of the books back that I sent, after reading it with your parents, and then your child will read it in front of our class.
