Students learn to break words apart and read each syllable. Students realize words are made of parts that can be broken down to make them more manageable.
During syllabication instruction, students learn there are 6 types of syllables and 4 different syllable division patterns.
Correctly dividing the syllables (using syllable division patterns) helps students identify the syllable types. Knowing the syllable types helps a student determine the vowel sound.
