Desmos - Level 1

What is it?

Desmos.com is a multifaceted site that houses three different calculators and an activity interface for learning mathematics concepts.

According to VDOE Superintendent's Memo #144-18, the Desmos calculators will be replacing the hand-held calculators on the SOL tests for the test administration in Spring of 2020. For SY 2018-2019, students will have access to both Desmos and the hand-held calculators.

How does it work?

Select a calculator by clicking on the appropriate button on the site, or go to learn.desmos.com to learn how to perform different functions on the calculators. To set up interactive classroom activities, go to teacher.desmos.com and sign in at the top right then sign in with Google. (This page is embedded below.)

Browse the classroom activities within Desmos's library, or go straight to your curriculum area on this table. Either way, you will find interactive math activities for your students. Try some of them for yourself. You will find that these activities incorporate the calculator interface into a constructive learning activity for students that often involves digital collaboration with others.
