Miss Petrone's Welcome Letter
Hi Central Cheetahs! My name is Lauren Petrone and I am so excited to join the Central community as a Special Education teacher (first grade) for this school year!
I grew up (and still reside) just a few minutes away in Cherry Hill. Ever since I was little, I knew that I wanted to be a teacher. My own teachers ignited my passion for learning and when asked who inspired me to go into teaching, I cannot help but think about my first and second grade teachers. I hope to inspire my own students to develop a passion for learning. I know that my classroom will be warm and inviting, and students will feel welcomed and given the individualized instruction and support needed to succeed.
After going through the Cherry Hill Public Schools for my K-12 education, I attended the University of Delaware and graduated this past May with a Bachelors of Science in Education degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in Special Education. My time at UD exposed me to many different classroom and educational settings, and I got to work with, teach, and build relationships with students who all have different educational needs and learning styles. Since graduating with my Bachelors, I have also continued my education to get trained in the Orton-Gillingham approach to reading & will be pursuing my Master's in Literacy Instruction.
When I am not in the classroom, in the summers you can find me as a division head for incoming Kindergarteners at the JCC Camps at Medford, where I have been a counselor and on the leadership team for nine years! I also can be found spending time with my family-- including my twin sister who is also a teacher and my miniature goldendoodle puppy, Barkley. Additionally, I love to read, travel (especially to warm places), explore new places, shop, and cheer on all the Philly sports teams!
I truly cannot wait for the year ahead! I am so excited to build relationships with my students, create a warm classroom environment where we can grow together and make lots of memories, and to surround myself with an amazing community of families and talented colleagues! This is going to be the best school year yet!
