In true demonstration of our new One-College design, HACC has come together to provide a multi-location food outreach for students in each of our campus areas. During this unprecedented time which has caused multifaceted challenges for our students, HACC has stepped up to help our community.
Recognizing that students facing food insecurity are particularly vulnerable during this COVID-19 pandemic, HACC’s Student Affairs team has been exploring options to support the students in need. Dr. Clarresa Morton (Vice President for Student Affairs & Enrollment Management) constituted a workgroup to develop a plan to address the barriers and connect HACC students to food resources during this critical period. The workgroup members are Angela Campbell (Executive Director, Assessment & Strategy), Matt Braswell (Director, Persistence & Student Progression), Jeff Gerstein (Director, Student Involvement), Radecka Appiah-Padi (Assistant Vice President, Learning Enhancement) and Gina Crance, (Assistant Vice President, Student Engagement).
To meet students’ needs, the workgroup proposed the implementation of a two-tier food insecurity relief initiative, the first being “Groceries on the Go”. The COVID Care Food Aid Initiative, will be a collaborative venture between HACC and local community partners: Grocery Outlets, Kennie’s Market and Weis Markets, during the occurrence of the pandemic. The groceries have been made available through the sponsorship and generosity of the Student Government Association.
The first kick off event was held on Thursday, June 11, 2020.
We are #HACCtogether and #HACCproud! Continue to look for more information on this initiative in the upcoming weeks.
The Office of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management (SAEM) began an initiative to address the emotional health of HACC students who suddenly found themselves adjusting to remote classes due to the pandemic.
This weekly document and short video includes helpful suggestions to make sheltering in place a little easier. The tips have been provided by various team members within SAEM. If you would like to provide suggestions to help students while we are sheltering in place, send your tips to Angela Campbell. This initiative to help our students adjust to taking classes remotely will continue as long as HACC Central Pennsylvania’s Community College is closed.
The team in Admissions has moved aggressively into recruitment in a remote environment. The following is a listing of the broad range of events that are creatively designed to ensure HACC’s diverse, highly personal experience is expressed to prospective students in a face-to-face, interactive manner.
