Workforce Development Non-Credit Paramedic Program

HACC’s 41st Paramedic Program began in August as HACC’s first non-credit paramedic program. One of the exciting opportunities provided by moving the program to the Senator John J. Shumaker Public Safety Center (PSC) was the ability for the paramedic students to interact with EMT students who were also taking courses at PSC. As the paramedic students finalized their cardiology section, EMT students were able to work alongside the paramedic students. This interaction between two different programs provided the students the most realistic simulation available during their time at HACC. This integrative training will further prepare both the EMT students and Paramedic students for their careers as EMS professionals.

WellSpan Health, OSS Health, and HACC Collaborate on York MA Program

Ten medical assisting (MA) students from the HACC York Medical Assisting/WFD program completed the program at the end of February 2020, and all accepted offers of employment from either WellSpan Health or OSS Health, both located in the York area. Students received full tuition sponsorships from WellSpan Health and OSS Health, and both organizations provided clinical externship sites for the students. Students, many of whom held part-time or full-time jobs and juggled family commitments, attended classes Monday through Thursday evenings for approximately five months followed by a 160-hour clinical externship. Janice Everette, MBA (and a former medical assistant) taught the class, and Crispus Attucks in York provided case management and support to eligible students.
