A syllabus is your guide to your course and lets the students know what is expected. More importantly, it sets the tone for your class. Generally, it will include course policies, rules and regulations, required texts, and a schedule of assignments and an updated EEOC statement, which will be circulated to you by your chair.
Sample syllabi and templates are available from your dean or administrative support staff. When writing your syllabus, it's important to convey approachability, motivation, and student-centeredness.
When your syllabi are ready to be submitted, please check with your Department Chair to determine if you are in the rotation to be reviewed. If you are, they are due to your Department Chair two weeks prior to the start of classes. If you are a new hire, or you are teaching a new prep, your syllabi should also be submitted two weeks prior to the start of classes for review. If your syllabi do not need to be reviewed, please email them to your department’s administrative support. When saving your syllabi, please use the following naming convention:
SUBJXXX_InstructorLastName_CRN XXXXX
For example:
ENGL050_Smith_CRN 25221
