Reading and Writing

It is important that you read with your child every day!

Dandelions

Now that spring is here, the dandelions peak out of the ground and burst forth ablaze in yellow. Check out these books and videos to learn about dandelions and the amazing facts that make this a unique plant.

Listen to Dandelions. Is there a pattern happening in this book?

When dandelion flowers go to seed, they make a white ball. Can you find items around your house or yard that have this same shape? Why might the seeds be in this shape? Check out the next video to see the magic of the dandelion seed.

There is a Question Book Page to fill out for this book.

This is a hard video for us to understand, but I thought you should see the science behind how dandelions fly. They make the air flow in a special shape. Can you find objects around your house and yard that make this shape?

Take a look at the life cycle of a dandelion flower. This video is sped up so you can quickly see how the flower turns into its seeds. Find a dandelion plant and see how long it takes its flower to open and then turn to a seed ball. Will it take a day, a week, 2 weeks...? Make a guess (estimate) and then track a flower to find out.

Check out The Dandelion Seed and then fill out your Question Book Page.

Listen to The Dandelion Seed's Big Dream. The dandelion seed goes through a lot of difficulties to make finally make its dream come true. Remember some of those trials for our work with this story.

While listening to the story, can you think of a dream you have?

Dr. Seuss Assignment

Listen to What Pet Should I Get and then you can fill out the Beginning, Middle, and End pages I sent you.

Peter Rabbit

Peter Rabbit is hiding in your child's bag.

If you have Beatrix Potter's book about Peter Rabbit, please read it to your child. For those who do not have the book check out this video:

Puppet Time:

Have your child colour and cut out the provided finger puppets, then you are ready for a puppet show!

Book Time:

Your child's bag also includes a make-it-yourself Peter Rabbit book. Have your child cut on the dotted lines and then put the pages in order. Staple or sew your book together. Colour the book. Read it often!

Your child should be able to turn the pages, point to each word as it is read, and later read the book without help. Yes, it will probably be memorized, but that is what we want!
