Subject change
Priority appeals (for candidates holding a university offer)
UCAS offer and Clearing,
Subject choice changes were updated in June. Any further changes should be linked to exam performance.
If you wish to make a subject change, you should fill in the Subject Change Request Form by Sunday 10 August 2025.
All subject choice requests will be reviewed by members of the Pupil Support team and by Academic Heads of Department upon return . Please note, any August subject changes may not appear on pupils’ timetables on Day 1 but will be updated over the first cycle.
The SQA guidelines on Appeals 2025 can be found on the SQA website. The appeals service is free in 2025, and you will be able to directly appeal to SQA yourself on their website or through the school from Tuesday 5 August.
A Priority Appeal can only be requested if the candidate requires a result to secure a conditional place at university or college. This is an expedited service which includes all the services of an Appeal.
For more information, please refer to the curriculum website, or contact us using this form
Universities and colleges will endeavour to be flexible in keeping places open until an outcome (for example the results of an Appeal) is received. However, it’s important to keep the universities and colleges informed of any appeals.
The best thing to do is contact your university or college as soon as possible to discuss your situation.
Universities will generally only talk to the applicant themselves or their nominee on the UCAS application. We recommend direct contact either by phone or through the Clearing online matching scheme.
Check the UCAS website or individual university and college websites for their contact details and helpline numbers. It is helpful to have your UCAS Personal ID. no. to hand before calling/emailing universities.
If the university of college agrees to hold your place, make sure you keep them up-to-date and let them know if anything changes.
UCAS advises universities to wait until the 6th of September to make their final decision, but not all universities follow this advice so it is very important for you to contact your university (and your insurance choice if you have one) to advise them of your appeal.
While you’re waiting for your appeal and to find out if you’ve got your firm place, we advise you to look for places in Clearing at the same time.
If, unfortunately, Universities can’t hold your place, or your appeal is unsuccessful, don’t forget there may still be some courses available through Clearing which is open until mid-October.
We are also happy to discuss other post-school destinations such as College, Apprenticeships or taking a Gap year.
In you want some advice about Clearing or to discuss other post School destinations, please complete our Google form and a member of the Careers team will get back to you. Please use the form exclusively for contacting us as this enables us to deal with inquiries in the most efficient way.
