Our Science Mascot

Designed through a whole school competition, to represent our passion and curiosity for Science.

Science - Vision

At Gurnard Primary School, it is our vision that all children are exposed to practical, ‘hands on’ science at all times.

It is our aim to make learning experiences as relevant and topical as possible, and for all lessons to foster a curiosity and care for the world around them.

We want our children to be confident and skilled communicators, who are able to work both independently, and within a team, to answer their own questions, preparing them for the challenges of science in the real world as they grow.

All learning experiences are planned around four key principles of Science, ensuring that our children become scientists who are:

  • curious

  • full of awe and wonder

  • questioners

  • discoverers

Left and below images: At Gurnard, we are lucky to have our own dedicated Science lab, 'The Phiz Lab' supported by The Ogden Trust. From Year 2, lessons are delivered in this specialist space, although children from EYFS will enjoy workshops and one-off opportunities to visit it.
