Pupil Work
Curriculum Impact - Pupil Work
On this page is a selection of work to demonstrate the learning that takes place in Religious Education lessons across the school. We have included a variety of work, alongside photos of the children learning and participating in class to show the wide range of activities and enrichment events in which they take part.
Early Years
In Early Years we provide the children with a variety of hands-on and immersive activities which allow the children to be exposed to religions in an age-appropriate way.
There are a variety of activities which the children engage in, such as: arts and crafts, role-playing with religious stories, taking part in workshops and learning through play.
Key Stage 1
In Years 1 and 2, the children will continue to look at a variety of religions and will start to explore these in more depth. They will explore the religious golden threads of love, belonging, community and special.
It is important that the children in Key Stage 1 are able to make links between the religion they are studying and their own life. For example, when looking at 'Light as a Symbol' , the children were able to understand light and it's importance in the form of candles. Whilst the children are exploring the religions in more depth, they still take part in practical activities ranging from designing their own candle, exploring how candles are used and having a birthday party for a teddy bear where a candle is used to celebrate.
Lower Key Stage 2
In Years 3 and 4, the children build on their pre-existing knowledge of Christianity and Judaism and begin to explore more religions to make links and comparisons between these.
Hinduism is introduced and the children are able to contrast between religions that typically have a God, and other religions, such as Hindusim, where they recognise deities.
Children are exposed to all religions through workshops, visits, videos and religious stories, of which they are able to explore through role-playing, creatives arts and again, finding links between the studied religion and their own lives.
Upper Key Stage 2
In Years 5 and 6, more religions are introduced including Islam and Sikhism, whilst still building on the key concepts within Christianity.
Children are able to understand and learn about the key concepts and golden threads of religion they have looked at previously, but within a different aspect of that religion.
They can do this in a variety of ways including digital projects, written work, art projects, workshops and planning their own investigations.
