TALEISHA BOWEN'05, MS, EDS, LCMHC        (she/her/hers)

Director of Counseling

Taleisha joined the Counseling Center Staff in 2018 and has served as the Center's Director since 2020. Prior clinical experience includes public mental health services, crisis support, assessment, training, and supervision.

Taleisha works primarily from a systems perspective, informed by person-centered and feminist therapy frameworks. Taleisha is committed to supporting people of multiple identities, and 

Taleisha is an alumnus of Guilford College, in addition to having a Master's Degree in Community Counseling with a specialization in Couples and Family Work.

 

KATHERINE BARRON, LCSW, LCAS             (she/her/hers) 

Katherine joined our counseling team in the Spring of 2021. She has experience in mental health crisis, women's issues, trauma, and substance use care as well as interest in supporting students in building life skills and managing mental and emotional health.

Katherine has a person-centered, holistic view and enjoys meeting students where they are, so they can work to find a path for counseling together. 

Katherine's undergraduate work was in Philosophy and Theater. She holds an MFA-Acting degree and also has a Master's in Social Work. 

 

Jameson Sellers, LCMHCA, NCC, CCTP  

Title IX Support Counselor                               (she/her/hers)

Jameson serves as the Wellness Coordinator as well as the Title IX Support and Crisis Counselor. In her role, she provides individual clinical services to students in crisis and/or who may need support deciding if the Title IX process is a fit or are going through the Title IX process and need direct clinical support. Jameson also works to bring dynamic and innovative programming to students across campus, with an emphasis on sexual health and wellness and supporting minoritized populations. Jameson provides Walk-In Wellness hours, Brainspotting sessions (referral from current counselor required), and Crisis Counseling during regular business hours. 

 

Detra Betts                                                 (she/her/hers)

OVW Grant Project Director 


Detra joined our team in the Spring of 2024 as the OVW Grant Project Director addressing gender-based violence. Detra holds a Master's Degree in Human Services Counseling and Bachelor's Degree in Family Studies.

Since 2015, her advocacy for victims and survivors of domestic and sexual violence has motivated her commitment to be a voice for the silent, help individuals overcome barriers, and break the cycle of abuse through intervention, prevention, and awareness strategies. 

In addition, Detra is a Certified Health Coach committed to encouraging a holistic approach for the well-being of others.

Asia joined our team in Fall 2022 and serves as the Student Health Services Coordinator and Administrative Assistant for the Counseling Center. When you visit, she will likely greet you from the front desk! In her role she provides assistance to students seeking counseling, wellness, and student health services.

AJ LANTON, JR, Graduate Intern 2023-24
NCAT&UNCG Joint Master's in Social Work Program

My name is AJ Lanton and I am a second year masters student at the JMSW program offered by UNCG and NCAT. I graduated from Wesleyan University where I majored in psychology and played football during my time there. 

This year I am interning at the counseling center and I am very excited to work with the students on campus. In my free time, I enjoy playing video games, spending time with family, and watching movies.






JAMIE POVICH, Graduate Intern 2023-24
UNCG Counseling Program

Jamie graduated from UNC Chapel Hill in 2021 with a double major in Psychology and Human Development and Family Studies. She is currently in her second year at UNC Greensboro getting her MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. 

Jamie is specifically interested in working with college students and the LGBTQ+ population. Her hobbies include watching movies, reading new books, going on walks, and exploring new places.

Tania Perez Rodriguez, MA, Graduate Intern, Spring '24
UNCG Counselor Education and Supervision PhD Program

Tania is a first-year doctoral student at UNCG. She graduated from Marymount University with a Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Forensic and Legal Psychology, and from Idaho State University with a B.A in Psychology and Spanish for the Health Professions. 

Tania is very excited to continue to work with college students, and has a past history working with Spanish-speakers. In her free time, she enjoys reading books, crafting, and hanging out with her mix-poodle Levi.
