Infinite Campus will be used to communicate your progress in class AND to give select feedback about your individual assignments.
Not all teachers use Infinite Campus the same way. Below is the information you need to know to get the most out of how I use Infinite Campus for this class.
For more information about the grade breakdown, check out the Grading Categories page.
Due to time constraints between my two departments (Science and Computer Science), I typically enter grades in larger batches. At times, I may be able to update grades daily. At other times, many school days may pass before assignments are entered into Infinite Campus. When I do post, there may be multiple assignments posted at the same time.
Assignments are usually first posted as TURNED IN or MISSING. This way students know if I have the assignment or not. I then go back and enter scores (for assessments) later - that could be five minutes later or five days later. It depends on my schedule.
Not everything entered into Infinite Campus will affect a student's overall grade and not everything will be scored (see also Assignments vs. Assessments on the Grades page).
NOTHING in the EXPLORE category ever directly affects a students grade. However, indirectly, these assignments are a good indication of how students can expect to do on the assessment(s).
For the remaining categories (everything other than EXPLORE), the following marks will affect a student's grade:
Points: any assignment that has points listed (including zero) will affect a student's grade.
Marks:
Any assignment flagged as M (Missing) or Ch (Cheat) in IC is the same as a zero.
Any assignment flagged as T (Turned-in) in IC does not negatively affect a student's score. However, once points are entered for that assignment the overall grade could go up or down.
Assignments flagged a X (Excused) have been dropped from the grade calculation.
The following "marks" DO NOT affect a student's grade:
Assignments that have neither points or a "mark" are essentially dropped from a student's score. They do not affect the grade in any way. All this means is that the assignment has been entered into the gradebook but scores (or flags) have yet to be entered (which means I probably got interrupted while I was working on updating the grades. It does NOT mean that the assignment is missing. If the assignment is known to be missing it will have the M flag.
Any other used flags, like I (Incomplete), are informational only.
Many assignments (both graded and ungraded) will have attached comments in Infinite Campus. Always READ the comments that have been left for you - especially if you have received a low/bad score.
The comments will help you understand what you can/should/need to do to improve your grade on that assignment (if make-up of the assignment is allowed) or on future assignments.
READ your comments!
