Students of the Month

The GUHSD Health Pathway celebrates a student who exemplifies his or her program each month during the school year. Students are nominated by the health pathway program team at their high school for their demonstration of exemplary academic, behavioral, and health pathway participation.

Congratulations to our Health Pathway Students of the Month!

February 2019 - El Cajon Valley High School

Lina Adeeb is a charismatic leader who is fully invested in her education. She is passionate about the health pathway, stating that she would like to one day be a dentist. Lina stays after class and comes and works after school several times a week to ensure that not only that she understands the information presented in class but that her friends do as well. Lina is the first person to help a classmate out when they have questions and is a terrific leader when it comes to labs, often stepping up to solve problems.

January 2019 - Santana High School

Keiko-Elaisa Oli is an exceptional student in her Biology and Community Health class. She has a keen interest and talent for science and is one of the top pathway students in her grade. Keiko’s caring nature and personality allow her to work well with group members in a team setting, which shows she has an openness and empathy for the feelings of others. Keiko has already demonstrated her interest and commitment to a career in the medical field by her acceptance to the Spring 2019 RLA program. She has a positive attitude and a commitment to helping people. Keiko’s curiosity, drive, and diligence leads me to believe she will succeed in college and in the pursuit of a career in health care.

Outstanding Students 2018 - El Capitan High School

Devin Volden and Isabel Smith

Devin and Isabel were so excited to learn that El Capitan had started a health pathway that they founded our program's student leadership program, the Student Medical Society in our very first year! Serving as co-presidents, Devin and Isabel work tirelessly to provide our student body with a plethora of enriching opportunities ranging from community service, service learning projects and guest speakers. In fact, Devin and Isabel have single-handedly coordinated a variety of after school and lunchtime guest speakers to help our students learn about the process of getting into medical school, to be exposed to careers in science and healthcare and to network with industry professionals. Their leadership has truly had a profound impact on the culture of our developing health pathway. The best part is neither serve our program to build up their own resumes; they genuinely want to help create a program that can help their peers learn and grow. On top of their role serving as leaders in our program, both Devin and Isabel are model health pathway students. They are dedicated to learning in their health pathway classes, serve by example and are always looking to take advantage of work based learning opportunities. El Cap, our Student Medical Society and our health pathway are so much stronger and robust thanks to these two bright leaders!
