Biography: Coached by her father, Serena entered her first tennis tournament at age four and a half, and her father recalls that, over the next five years, she won forty-six of the next forty-nine tournaments she entered. She continued to build her skills and confidence in 1998, beating a number of players ranked far above her. In 2003, Williams completed her sweep of Grand Slam events, beating her sister to win the singles title at the Australian Open.
