Quote: "As a minority, I wanted to instill confidence in my people that look like me to say that it is safe, be guided by science, don't be afraid," (Source: https://www.businessinsider.com/meet-sandra-lindsay-first-us-person-get-covid-19-vaccine-2020-12)

Biography: Sandra Lindsay was born in Jamaica, where she helped take care of her grandma which inspired her to be a nurse. After moving to New York, she went to community college and St. Joseph’s College in Brooklyn for her bachelor’s degree in nursing, and then to Lehman College in the Bronx for her Master’s degree. When asked at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center who would like to take the vaccine, Sandra was one of the first to raise her hand. Because of lingering skepticism about the vaccine, even among some on her own staff, Ms. Lindsay, the director of critical care nursing, said she wanted to lead by example — particularly as a Black woman who understands the legacy of unequal and racist medical treatment and experimentation on people of color.
