Things are getting busy in 2A, with lots of learning to finish off the month. We finished up our All About Me theme with a great project. The students wrote sentences about themselves in their writing notebooks. The focus was on writing complete sentences with capitals at the beginning and a period at the end. At this time of year spelling is not something I focus on and often do not correct them. As the year goes on and we have learned more spelling patterns and high frequency words, the spelling becomes more important. However, for this project, the students typed out a good copy in Google Slides, therefore, I did correct most of their spelling for them. The bright watercolor backgrounds that they painted really helped the words pop off the page! They turned out really well!
It was a beautiful fall day for the annual Terry Fox Walk. Thank you to all the parents who came out for the walk! It was lovely to have you. We spent the morning learning quite extensively about Terry. We read slides, watched videos, read a new story called T is for Terry: An ABC of Courage, and we read an article and answered comprehension questions about what we read. We learned how to find important information and used our highlighters. Lastly, the discussion that we had about PERSEVERANCE all month continued. We learned how Terry persevered everyday while he ran, even though he was in pain and not well, to raise money and awareness for cancer research. He was a hero. The students shared ways in which they persevered and wrote about it on a shirt for Terry.
Our Smart Cookie Goal this month was "using whole body listening". We filled our jar with wooden cookies today - hurray! - which means we worked hard all month to show whole body listening as a class and we earned homemade cookies from Mrs. Nuttall on Monday to celebrate! Congratulations to Molly, Addison and Walter for being the Smart Cookie of the Week throughout September.
