Remembrance DayÂ
We recited a poem called I'll Wear A Poppy.
Sound on 🔊
We talked a lot about peace and wrote about what peace means to each of us.
We created some pretty poppy vases.
These pictures are a bit late but we have been playing Headbands with addition facts in Math. Two students put the card on their forehead without peaking at the card. A third student tells the sum of the two cards. The two students look at each other's card and guess what their own card is, knowing what the sum is.Â
In October, we took a walk to the Medicine Park. While we were there we learned about what a sharing circle is and how Indigenous communities have specific protocols to share their oral traditions. Students then found a small stick to take from the land to create a Talking Stick back in our classroom. We participate in a sharing circle in our classroom frequently to share our thoughts and feelings.Â
2A absolutely LOVES going to the library, sharing their books and spending time with Mrs. Joosse.
In Math right now, we go back and forth between outcomes about analyzing quantities to 1000 and outcomes surrounding patterning. This week we spent much time playing with pattern blocks. Students worked through outcomes that included creating patterns that were repeating patterns with up to four attributes; creating increasing patterns; and creating decreasing patterns. It is harder than it looks but by the end of the week, they all got it. This is FUN math!
Each week do "roll and reads" when we learn new spelling patterns in phonics. You have likely seen many of them come home each week. There are many fun ways to gamify roll and reads so that they are engaging to the student. Recently we tried "roll & run". Students roll a dice, select a word on their page to read, check it off, and then go find a blank roll and read page around the room to write their word. Not only does it help them learn to read and spell the word, it is also adds an element of excitement. The goal is to fill all blank pages around the room in a specified amount of time. Take a look. 👀
