Myths Legends Folktales 8
In this three part unit students:
- Understand the three genres (Myths, Legends and Folktales) by comparing the usefulness of the different types of text. 2.3.2
- Explore the messages in a variety of folktales by distinguishing theme from the topic or main idea. 2.3.3
- Write their own folktale with a major and minor character using Book Creator. 2.4.3

Studets explore two websites to list criteria for legends, myths and folktales and examine their similarities and differences. They watch "The Blind Boy and the Loon" and compare their own culture to that found in the text.

Students read a variety of trickster folktales and discuss how main ideas help the reader form a theme statement.
