What elements do all novels have in common? This unit will get students slecting books and discussing them with their peers. They represent their thinking and promote their books to the whole class. This unit will have them build literacy and promote the love of reading.
Students read the first section of their novel and complete the Protagonist / Antagonist Character Sketch.
Discuss Positives, Negatives and Interesting aspects of the characters. (Use PNI Chart)
Create a post to represent what they've learned about the nature of people and relationships.
While reading the second section of their novels students complete the Cause and Effect Organizer.
Then discuss these consequences and categorize them in their PNI Chart.
Last they represent using a Newspaper Headline Template.
During reading students complete What's the Big Idea Organizer.
Then discuss and sort theme statements in their PNI Charts.
Finally, they create an Adobe Spark Post to represent their theme.
Students use their visuals to create a book promo for the class. They use either a Google Slide Show or Adobe Spark Video to promote their books.
They set criteria for presentation skills, rehearse and give feedback.
The class listens and decides on which books they'd like to read next.
