Diary of a Flower: Students will create an ebook that describes plant life cycle.

Plant Part Sort: 4.10.2

Students will sort plant pictures to discover four different plant parts; students will also begin completing a note-taking graphic organizer which will be used to record future information about the purpose of each plant part.

Students will create a screencast explaining the purpose of plant roots, stems, leaves and flowers.

Photosynthesis Requirements and Products (Teacher Outline)

Photosynthesis: 4.10.4, 4.10.10

Students will use Google Slides to animate the process of photosynthesis to reinforce their understanding of the requirements and products of photosynthesis. Students should include the components for photosynthesis (requires light energy, water, carbon dioxide, and chlorophyll) and the products (Glucose, Oxygen).


Schools in Bloom: 4.10.4, 4.10.6

This cross-curricular project (Math, Science, Language Arts) will have students pretend to enter a district wide ‘Schools in Bloom’ contest. Students will design garden beds, find their measurements and choose the plants they will hold while considering the plant’s environmental needs to thrive.

Plants of Alberta Magazine: 4.10.6

Students will create a magazine using plants native to various regions in Alberta.

4.10.3 Describe common plants, and classify them on the basis of their characteristics and uses.
