Students will use the picture prompt templates to help promote writing about personal experiences. The planner will help them establish chronological order of their thoughts. Using the funnel template may also help them focus their writing.
Use dictionaries to confirm the spellings of unfamiliar words in texts: 2.1.13
Students will use the Scrabble template in daily 5 activities to create words based upon the centers theme or language concept. Students can use electronic or junior dictionaries to confirm the spellings of their words during the game.
Extend sight vocabulary to include words frequently used in other subject areas: 2.1.5
This is a cross curricular activity where students will create a vocabulary list complete with visuals to help them remember and explain key words in other subject areas. The template can be adjusted for other subjects and not just Social Studies. You can also adjust the supplied word list.

Recognize how words and word combinations influence or convey meaning: 2.3.6
Students will use the various poetry templates to learn about a specific poetic style while learning how these styles convey meaning of an idea in a specific way.

Students will use the novel summary template and the review template to complete activities for a novel study. Students will create summaries and learn how to add images and voice overs to explain the novel. Templates can be adjusted for any novel or any number of chapters.
Explain how language and visuals work together to enhance effect: 2.2.11
Students will use the silhouette template to create a visual of themselves while experimenting with font and style to communicate meaning about themselves. Using Pixlr is a good option for student created silhouettes.

Students will use the provided picture prompts to create narratives based upon the visuals and their own ideas or experiences.

Students will use the organization template to summarize a novel using visuals and text. The template can be adjusted for different novels and for a variety of different chapters.

Students will use the Google Slides template to explore what makes a compound sentence a compound sentence. They will also learn the skills of copy and pasting objects in a multi-media format.

Students will use the sentence variety activity to learn about simple and compound sentence structures. They will also develop their own sentences to display their own understanding of the structures.
This Poetry Unit contains lessons, activities, and templates for creating acrostics, cinquain, similes, onomatopoeia, haikus, blackout poetry and more.
