VR Tour of Sacred Places. 4.2.1, 4.22.
Students will learn about sacred Indigenous locations in Alberta, create amazing virtual tours of them, and add information from their research.
Oral traditions, narratives and stories of the First Nations 4.2.1.1, 4.2.1.1 and 4.2.1.3
Stories of First Nations: Students will do a close reading of interviews with elders and other first nations people, then record the stories and add pictures in an Adobe Spark video.
Pictograph -writing on stone 4.2.1.1, 4.2.1.2, & 4.2.2.3
First Nations peoples wrote their histories on stone by using pictographs. Go through the presentation (en français) to learn about stories told through symbols. Students will then write a story and represent it using pictographs.

The Builders of Alberta Project Version Français Learn about a famous Albertan or group of Albertans and make a video showing their contribution to Alberta's history.

A Night At the Museum This project was created by Musée Héritage Museum in St. Albert and the staff and students of Leo Nickerson school. The ideas presented in this blog could be used with a variety of multimedia tools.
French and British, First Nation community names in Alberta 4.2.1.4
Students will use this primary source; Geographic Board of Canada Place Names of Alberta to create a map of French, British and First Nation community names in Alberta, then do a community profile for one of those French places.
Students could use this list of names or find others, then find out more about one Alberta place and summarize with a postcard.

Canmore: "Ceann mor" is Gaelic for "Big Head." The Stoney name for Canmore, "too-wup-chinchin-koodibee;' (Dempsey) translates as "shooting at a young spruce tree:'
Maligne Lake: Was originally named Sore Foot Lake.
Wetaskiwin: Cree word wi-ta-ski-winik, "place of peace."

Students will watch a video about Voyageurs and then write a resume of characteristics that make a successful voyageur and then do a diary entry for a day in their life as a voyageur.

Information gathering about First Nations in Alberta.
Historical Places and Objects Magazine: Demonstrate respect for places and objects of historical significance: 4.2.1.7
Students will create a magazine with articles that highlight important places and objects in Alberta.
