Learners Assessment
The Arizona English Language Learner Assessment (AZELLA) is a standards-based assessment that measures student's English language proficiency. Students who have been identified as second language learners on the Home Language Survey (HLS) or previous AZELLA test history will take the Placement test. Annually all EL students, including those parent withdrawn from services, will take the Spring Reassessment.
English learners with the most significant cognitive disabilities may be eligible to take the alternate assessment (Alt ELPA) as determined by the IEP team.
Check out the CUSD Research & Assessment Webpage for more information on testing dates, sample tests, parent letters, and more!
School sites will receive 2 paper copies of the Pearson's blue Individual Student Report and 1 copy of the AZELLA Family Report Guide for students who have completed the Placement and/or Spring Reassessment tests.
1 copy of the student's report must be filed in the yellow ELD folder within the student's cumulative file
1 copy of the student's report and AZELLA Family Report Guide must be distributed to the parent(s)/guardian(s)
Prior to the end of a reporting cycle, your ELD Academic Coach may send a copy of the student's OnDemand report to the site. This report provides information for schools to determine student placement and enrollment in EL services.
!!Do Not give the OnDemand report to Parents!!
