The GSCS Superintendent’s Advanced Leadership Academy for Aspiring Principals has been established to recruit, train, support, and retain high-quality leaders who will increase student achievement and improve school climate. Selected aspiring leaders will participate in a yearlong program, led by the Superintendent and other district leaders, which focuses on improving leader performance standards, knowledge of the district’s strategic plan, and its components, and other skills needed to positively impact students, teachers, and communities.
Provide professional learning experiences that will enable participants to become principals.
Identify and build capacity within the existing pool of experienced administrators who aspire to become principals by offering them the opportunity to enhance existing skills and acquire new skills needed for the principalship.
Review the school district policies and practices and integrate participants into the social system of the school and community.
Provide an opportunity for the participants to analyze and reflect on their practice with coaching from veteran practitioners.
PROGRAM COMPONENTS
Leaders will begin the program with a summer intensive (3 days) that will present the challenge of school leadership through a comprehensive simulation grounded in authentic school experiences.
Sessions are designed to facilitate and maximize opportunities to engage in informal discussions with members of the cohort.
Each session will require participants to maintain an electronic portfolio that contains a compilation of session experiences, reflective essays, and presentations.
The ten-day rotation will allow aspiring leaders to practice and reflect on school leadership in a real school setting.
Applications will be available in March 2025.
