About Tainan English Village.
In Taiwan current English teaching and learning conditions, the average students are receiving the classes focusing more on reading and writing rather than speaking and listening due to the limitation of resources and environment, although the main objectives of English teaching is to motivate children's listening and speaking abilities.
To mitigate this situation, Tainan established English Village in Bo-ai Elementary School in 2010. In English Village, several scenario classrooms are provided, like airport, hotel, supermarket or restaurant, and they allow kids to get into a simulated reality to directly practice the listening and speaking ability. Currently, the Tainan English Village provide not only a one day English tour, but also summer and winter camps for children around Tainan City.
The Participation of G.R.E.S.
Limited by the small space and manpower resources, G.R.E.S. currently provides students with the foreign teachers and mobile English teaching van sent by the English Village. These activities normally last for two days and within which qualified students would be recruited. It is notable that in these classes foreigners are acting as teachers, forcing our students to speak and listen, and have chances to contact with foreigners. This is a fairly rare chance for our students in G.R.E.S., considering the urban and rural imbalance, so G.R.E.S. will continuously seeking every possible arrangement for our students.
