Happy Fall! The cooler weather is SO appreciated. I see that most of you have either planted your fall/winter crops and/or have cleared out all the dead summer plants and weeds. Cleaning your plot is important for avoiding the creation of a habitat for insects to overwinter.
Many thanks to those of you who came out for the October Work Party! A small but hardy crew who braved the showers and did some much-needed clean up. Next and last Work Party will be Saturday, November 4 from 9-11, followed by an end-of-season potluck. Last year’s was so much fun!
If you will NOT be coming back next season or if you would like to give back part of your plot, please reach out to Chip, our new garden coordinator. We have a large waiting list for next season. So, if you were not able to make full use of your plot, please consider setting it free.
Reminder - each Gardener is responsible for keeping the paths around your plot clear of weeds. The Bermuda grass will take over if you don’t pull it out by the roots before you lay down cardboard and wood chips.
The official end of the gardening season is Saturday, November 4. We will celebrate with a potluck lunch at noon for all who care to come. Bring a dish to share, either savory or sweet, salad or entree, your choice.
Something from your garden would be a special treat. And maybe bring a chair to sit in. Family members are welcome. WCG will provide plates, silverware, and drinks. It was a great time last year, chatting with all the Community Garden friends.
Hope to see you all there!
We have had the pleasure of a visiting cat to our Garden. L’Orange is a sweet, affectionate girl(?) who also has been a great ratter/mouser. She may live nearby and only comes occasionally for a visit and rodent snack. While we love her hunting abilities, we really can't have her stay. So if you see her, please escort her outside the fence.
If you use our rototillers, please don’t put them away clogged with your weeds!
Please clean the tillers before putting them away.
If you are unsure of how to clean, please ask or click here to find step-by-step instruction.
