According to the Virginia Cooperative Extension, the blackberry fruit is packed with vitamins C, K, and E. The fruit is rich in dietary fiber and low in sugar. It also contains numerous phytochemicals, such as anthocyanin, a significant contributor to human health (USDA-ARS 2019).
Through laboratory experiments and animal model studies, researchers found that the phenolic compounds in blackberries could have the ability to prevent chronic and inflammatory diseases and various types of cancers and could reduce the chances of age-related cognitive disorders (Kaume, Howard, and Devareddy 2012).
Be sure to include fresh blackberries as part of your diet. The dietary benefits are outstanding and, most importantly, they taste pretty good!
1 cup of your favorite Vanilla Greek Yogurt. It is best to look at the labels, stay away from artificial sweeteners and added sugars. My go to is a famous "Triple Zero Blended Greek yogurt"...leaving any brand names out. Each serving contains approximately 17 grams of protein. Add 1/2 cup of ripe black berries and two tablespoons of crunchy granola. If you're in an extra 'crunchy mood', add sliced almonds! Enjoy!
Side note: This yogurt brand is in a black label...comes in a variety of flavors...some smell a little bad due to the active cultures. It's a great way to keep co-workers out of your office!
