This application is the form you will need to fill out to obtain financial aid from the federal government to help pay tuition at postsecondary schools. The FAFSA asks for information about the student and the student's family, including tax returns, so you'll need to work together to complete it. The FAFSA is free - you don't need to pay anyone to prepare it for you. The FAFSA will need to be completed each year while you are attending an undergraduate program in order to request aid.
Step 1: Create an Federal Student Aid (FSA) ID. Create your accounts - one for a parent/guardian and one for the student the aid is for - here. You may find this How-to-Guide helpful!
Step 2: Complete the FAFSA
Step 3: Receive financial aid awards from colleges the student is accepted to and review how much is received in scholarships, grants, and loans. How much remains to be paid out of pocket?
Step 4: Accept financial aid for the college the student will be attending
Step 5: Complete any promissory notes and loan counseling required
