Chamber Choir is a selective auditioned vocal ensemble at Grinnell High School. Members of this ensemble consist mainly of upperclassmen who are able to read All-State caliber music, are experienced in music literacy, have developed vocal techniques, and are independent musicians.
Chamber Choir focuses on challenging music (i.e. 8-part music, Iowa All-State level repertoire, honor choir repertoire, a capella singing, large vocal ranges, etc.) that emphasizes technique building and ensemble skills. This ensemble performs at multiple major concerts of the year, including:
A fall concert,
A winter concert,
The Variety Show,
The IHSMA Large Group Contest,
A spring concert
The Chamber Choir typically performs at Heartland Youth Choirs’ Meet the Composer Event, a highly selective performance opportunity in which students work with world-renowned composers in a workshop and perform in a large concert setting in Des Moines.
Individual participation is optionally given to students who show interest. These opportunities include:
Solo/group participation in Variety Show,
Solo/group participation in a Solo/Ensemble contest,
WAMAC Honor Choir
Other pop-up concerts throughout the year
Concert Choir is a non-auditioned ensemble welcome to any vocal musicians attending Grinnell High School. Members of this ensemble include students who require the opportunity to enrich their musical abilities before entry in Chamber Choir.
Concert Choir focuses on enhancing music literacy skills, building vocal technique, and developing part independence on 2-part, 3-part, and 4-part harmony. This ensemble performs at multiple major concerts of the year, including:
A fall concert,
A winter concert,
The Variety Show,
The IHSMA Large Group Contest,
The spring concert.
Individual participation is optionally given to students who show interest. These opportunities include:
Opus Honor Choir (Freshman exclusive),
Solo/group participation in a Solo/Ensemble contest,

Treble Clef Choir consists of all soprano and alto students in Grinnell High School's Choir. This ensemble is non-auditioned and rehearses during the normal choir rehearsal. This ensemble performs at multiple major concerts of the year, including:

Large Group Contest
Treble Clef Choir focuses on ensemble and tone development, music literacy, and relationship building.
Bass Clef Choir consists of all tenors and basses in Grinnell High School in both Concert and Chamber Choir. This ensemble is non-auditioned and rehearses during the normal choir rehearsal, beginning in the 3rd Trimester. This ensemble typically performs at IHSMA Solo/Ensemble Contest, Large Group Contest, and at the Spring Concert. Treble Clef Choir focuses on ensemble and tone development, music literacy, and relationship building.
