The Grinnell High School Choirs are committed to cultivating talented musicians who consistently exhibit strong work ethic. The following students who serve on the Choir Leadership Council help the choral program attain musical, personal, and organizational excellence. The leadership council also allows members to provide input for the choir’s various activities, advocate for the choir within the school community, and help build a positive and supportive student culture within and between the choirs.

The choir president is regarded as a highly responsible and respected member of the choir, the school, and the community. They are someone who is represented as a role model, someone who helps others, and someone who is willing to work with the head director to make a positive impact on the program.
Examples of things the president would do throughout the year:
Attend 1-on-1 meetings with the director about the overall program
Speak at concerts and events about updates in the choir program
Assist with the end of year choir awards
Event managers are choir members who are strong communicators and have an attention to detail. These students communicate openly with the director and students about upcoming events.
Event managers are asked to:
Meet with the director to collect all information about upcoming events pertaining to choir members (meetings usually occur 2 weeks before the event)
All information collected will be shared by the event managers with students either verbally during class or through electronic communication
Arrive early to events to help set up or provide any support needed for student
Historians are choir members who love to write, document, and highlight past experiences. These choir members work with other members to reflect on past performances and events and work with the social media manager or community members to collect photos and videos.
Historians are asked to:
Provide an overarching history of the school year in a “GHS Choir History” document (provide information on concerts, trips/performances outside of GHS, accomplishments, highlights)
Work with social media managers to collect images and videos of past performances
Interview/work with students to help document what being a GHS choir member is really like (journal entries, 1-on-1 or group interviews, group share activities)
The community team works together to come up with fun social events. Throughout the year, the community team will organize events and activities that will help bring the choir members even closer.
The community team is asked to:
Meet once a month to brainstorm events for choir members to participate in (ex. ice cream socials, movie nights, kickball games, video game nights, board game nights)
Work with the director to develop recruitment ideas to help middle school and high school-aged students be excited to join Choir.
Develop fun warm-ups for the choir to do throughout the year
The librarians help organize, catalog, and keep all files related to Choir in good condition. These officers help distribute music, collect and sort returned music, and other extremely important tasks that allow the choir program to run smoothly.
Librarians are asked to:
work with the director to restructure and organize the library to maximize storage space
help distribute music for the choir
file music as needed
stamp and number all new music that arrives to prepare for filing or passing out
provide temporary folders to students who misplace theirs
catalog all new files that are placed into library
tabulate quantity of music upon request
arrange music copies for adjudicators at festivals
repair ripped or damaged music
ensure any new choir members have all music necessary
The social media manager is someone who has an eye for capturing important memories and a passion for sharing it to the world. This student must be self-driven to pursue new ways of communicating with community members, share important aspects of rehearsal and performances, and come up with creating ways of showcasing members of the GHS choirs.
Social media managers are asked to:
Take photos and videos of choir members rehearsing, performing, and interacting inside the school district
Create engaging social media posts (3-5 a month) that showcases important events, positive experiences, and overall successes of the choir program
Share information for upcoming events like concerts, social gatherings, or informal performances that are open to the public by creating online events.
Use graphic design skills to create banners, photo collages, or other ways of enhancing social media events, posts, or videos.
Section leaders are responsible for representing their part, both inside, and out of Choir. Section leaders lead small group sectionals to learn or perfect their music.
Section leaders are asked to:
Take leadership for their vocal part and assist those within it
Lead small group sectionals with their vocal part
Advocate for Choir to gain new members, both in their vocal part and not in their vocal part.
