Grinnell-Newburg schools offers enriching and memorable fine arts experiences for students of all ages. Students have the opportunity to work with experienced staff and participate in award-winning programs. See below for more information.
The Grinnell High School Choir offers multiple ensembles of varied levels. Students are placed in an ensemble appropriate to their voice type, music literacy skills, and/or vocal experience.
The following ensembles make up GHS Choirs and meet during the school day:
Concert Choir - The GHS choir for students to enrich their musical abilities before entry to the Chamber Choir.
Chamber Choir - The selective GHS choir with an audition-based entry for prestigious GHS musicians.
Tiger Choir - The mixed GHS choir, with automatic entry upon choir enrollment.
Treble Clef Choir - The GHS choir for Soprano and Alto students.
Bass Clef Choir - The GHS choir for Tenor and Bass students.
The primary objectives of vocal music at GHS:
Stimulating an interest and an appreciation of a wide range of music, both as a performer and as a listener.
Developing vocal technique (tone quality, diction, pitch discrimination, etc.
Developing independent musicianship skills.
The expectations and extra information about vocal music at GHS:
The student will be expected to develop a command of the voice, stage presence, good posture, musical understanding, and a desire to improve breath management, stage presence, choral discipline, diction, tone quality, self-confidence, and independence as a vocalist.
Scheduled performances that take place outside of the regular school day are required.
Various honor choir auditions are available.
Private voice instruction is provided and required.
There is a $15.00 robe-cleaning fee.
