Weld RE-5J School District has announced a Career and Technical Education (CTE) program expansion, made possible by the passing of the 2020 mill levy override ballot question. This expansion will create a Plant Science Pathway as part of the Agriculture program at Roosevelt High School. “Plant Science is in high demand in northern Colorado and the addition of this new pathway will create multiple opportunities for our students and for the community. Students will gain experience in greenhouse production and grow food for other programs in the school such as culinary arts & food services,” said Ron Hruby, Director of CTE. As part of this program, plants and produce could be offered to the community and local industry. Plant Science also includes landscaping and irrigation.
This expansion enhances the Agriculture program at Roosevelt High School whose offerings currently include Ag. Business, Animal Science, and Ag. Power, Structures & Technical Systems Pathways.
Level 1 and 2 courses will be available in the Fall of 2021. On-site learning labs in the new high school, due to be completed in 2023, will enable additional levels to be offered in the near future. Milliken Middle School will continue to provide exploratory classes that lead seamlessly to pathways in the high school. Weld RE-5J avidly supports its CTE programs which create opportunities for students to discover and explore career pathways they are passionate about while developing their skills in real-world, work-based learning environments. CTE programs also enable students to gain internships, apprenticeships, industry certifications, and/or college credits while still in high school. These programs benefit local industries by cultivating a workforce with relevant skills and experience.
