At Charles Townes Center we offer general art in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. For those wishing to pursue more challenge, students can submit a portfolio for a 7th and 8th grade advanced art class. We also offer 7th and 8th grade Graphic Art.
For the 2024-2025 school year, I co- teach Art 1 Honors with Mrs. Harrington for 8th graders all year long! Art 1 Honors is a high school credit class that focuses on art making, art criticism, art process, and portfolio building. Students will work with a variety of mediums and focus on skill building to prepare for more progression in the visual arts. These students submitted portfolios is the spring of last year for acceptance into this course.
The advanced art class is to stretch you further in your art making. We will look at design thinking and studio habits of mind to help prepare you to show/present your work to peers and others. This class requires focus and self-motivation in your art work. Mrs. Spitler will be guiding exploration as you build your body of work.
In the fall and spring semester I teach Graphic Art to 7th and 8th graders.
Graphic Art is wide range of art forms that focus primarily on 2D works with line. This could be drawing, painting, printmaking- all fine arts. Graphic art can also include the digital realm with graphic design, typography, photography, book arts, calligraphy, or even design plans (architecture or interior design). All of these are classified as the applied arts. As you can see, we have a wide range of options in this class! :)
