Art is so important to us at Sterling & Charles Townes Center! The arts enhance your child's life and learning- now and for the rest of their lives! It might sound a little over enthusiastic, but it really is true. Hundreds of studies have shown children's involvement in the arts- visual or performing- helps them have more success in every other area of school and life. The arts teach listening and observing skills; how to think critically and creatively solve problems; increased appreciation for others and differences; responsibility, respect and empathy. We fight hard for the arts in our school and in our state. Both Mrs. Harrington and I are involved in the arts locally as well as our state level.
In our school elementary students have art class once a week. Middle school students have art everyday for an entire semester when they choose art for their elective. Please visit the elementary and middle school art pages for more info!
We have an online art gallery we would love you to visit! www.artsonia.com is an international website that is an incredible resource. Each student has an account and the art teachers post student art work throughout the year. This website serves as a digital portfolio for our students that will grow with them through the years. This website also offers you the opportunity to buy gifts with your students' artwork on them. When purchases are made, our art program receives a percentage of the profits which then helps us buy special art supplies.
Please check out our online gallery through Artsonia!! https://www.artsonia.com/schools/school.asp?id=106308
