I often have parents ask me about art beyond the classroom. My first response is make sure your student has materials available at home. I like to call it an art toolbox: wooden pencils, color pencils, crayons, paper, scissors, glue, watercolors, etc. Having materials available allows the student to have more time to work with them other than just at school. My second response is check out How to Draw books from your local library. The step by step instruction breaks down what looks complex. Parents can also check out Art for Kids Hub on Youtube. I use this channel in class at times when we work on directed draws. My third response for someone who just wants more art experiences is private lessons or extra classes. Here is a list of places around the Greenville area that offer student related art classes: Yellow Bobby Pins, Creating Artist for Tomorrow. The Art Haven, Bright Eyes Arts and Greenville Center for Creative Arts. Also, Greenville County Schools offers a program students can be recommended for called the ARMES program, click the link to learn more.
