In this course, students will first begin to develop aural and oral skills, then read and write what they can say using familiar words, commands, phrases, short sentences and basic questions. They will learn to use predictable language in familiar settings. They will start to develop cultural awareness and the ability to recognize the products, practices, and perspectives of the culture. They will also use the language to expand their knowledge in all content areas.
Greenville High uses the curriculum developed by the Greenville County School District, which does not use a textbook. Any textbooks issued to students may be used as a resource for grammatical explanations and extra practice. Over the course of the year, students will be completing the following theme-based units:
Introduction: How to survive in a Language Class – 4 weeks*
Unit 1: My Friends and I – 8 weeks
Unit 2: My School Life – 8 weeks
Unit 3: Home Sweet Home – 8 weeks
Unit 4: Let’s Eat! – 8 weeks
The units include vocabulary, grammatical concepts and elements of culture. For each unit, students will be formally assessed on an [1]interpretive, [2]interpersonal and [3]presentational task.

3 Types of Tasks:
1. Interpretive tasks are reading and writing tasks.
2. Interpersonal tasks are speaking and listening tasks.
3. Presentational tasks are project-based activities.
GRADING:
According to district policy, the breakdown of grades is as follows:
Major Assessments are 60%:
Minor Assessments are 40%
Late Work: 10 points off per day, max of 60 if turned in by end of unit, max of 50 if turned in after the unit.
