Rock cycle
Geology
Earthquakes
Volcanoes
Plate tectonics
Oceanography
Meteorology
Astronomy
Course Philosophy: Our world changes over time, sometimes slowly and other times rapidly. Students must gain a deep understanding of the changes occurring throughout geologic time and how humans can affect and shape the Earth itself. At the end of this course, students will understand the Earth’s rapid and slow processes, the role humans play in affecting changes to the Earth’s processes, and the Earth’s place in the universe.
Students will work individually and collaboratively in groups throughout the semester. Working in teams develops critical collaborative skills that are necessary when they join the workforce.
Students are expected to participate and actively engage in each lesson. We will use a variety of instructional strategies, including direct instruction, reading text, discussing questions, researching articles, watching educational videos, conducting labs, and more.
Students who take this course will develop their critical thinking, deductive abilities, and logical reasoning skills. Science teaches students how to ask questions, investigate their world through experimentation and evaluation, and learn to apply what they learn in other ways.
