My name is Loan Lynn Nelson, and I’m proud to call Greer my hometown. I grew up here and graduated from Greer High School—which is kind of ironic because that same location is now home to Bonds Career Center, where I now have the privilege of teaching Graphic Communications. I joined Bonds in the fall of 2024, bringing my passion for graphic design and visual communication into the classroom. After high school, I attended the College of Charleston and Greenville Technical College. My journey to completing my degree wasn’t exactly a straight path—life took me on a few unexpected detours along the way—but I never gave up on that goal. In July 2026, I finally graduated from Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Graphic Design. It has been a long and winding journey, but I’m grateful for where it has led me and excited to share my experiences and passion for design with the next generation of creatives.
While attending college in Charleston, I met my best friend and husband, Chad Nelson, who was serving in the U.S. Navy at the time. Together, we have built a wonderful family with four amazing children and two beautiful granddaughters who bring us so much joy.
Our daughter, Kayla, has followed her creative passion and owns her own design business, Mad Sweeney Creations, while also working as a Customer Service Manager at Publix. Our oldest son, Storm, is an English teacher at River Bluff High School in Lexington County. Our middle son, Taz, is currently attending my alma mater, Full Sail University, where he is studying Game Development. Our youngest son, Bear, is a graduate of the Bonds Welding program, where he studied under the guidance of Mr. Varholy and Mr. Squires. After earning his associate degree from Spartanburg Community College, he is now putting his skills to work as a welder at Boiler Tube of America.
I’m incredibly proud of each of my children and the paths they have chosen. It’s especially rewarding to see them pursue their own passions and build careers that reflect their individual talents and interests. I also love that, in different ways, education, hands-on learning, and career training have played such an important role in each of their journeys.
For 18 years, my husband and I owned and operated Amazing Threads, a family-run business that we were fortunate enough to sell in 2021. Running the business together was one of the most rewarding experiences of our lives, especially because we had the opportunity to share it with our children and watch them grow up as part of the business. I truly loved the creative side of our work, but what I loved most was the opportunity to meet so many wonderful people and become part of their lives through the work we did.
Ironically, it was through one of those wonderful people I met along the way that I was encouraged to apply for a position at Bonds Career Center and help develop a new Graphic Communications program. It feels incredibly meaningful to have the opportunity to bring together my experiences in business, design, and the graphics industry in a way that can benefit the next generation. I hope to share my knowledge, passion, and love for this industry with my students while encouraging them to explore their creativity, discover their own potential, and pursue opportunities they may not have otherwise imagined. Most of all, I hope to be an inspiration to the future students of Bonds Career Center and help them see that their own unique paths can lead them to amazing places.
