Changes in Transportation- If you wish for your child's transportation to be changed for a particular day, please send in a written note with the correct date, teacher's name, student's first and last name, and parent signature. If there is no written note received then your child will go home via his/her usual method of transportation. All notes must have the following information: date, teacher's name, student's first and last name, and parent signature.
Early Dismissals- Please send a note in the morning if you plan to pick your child up early. Check in at the office to sign your child out and the office staff will call for your child to meet you there. There will be no early dismissals after 2:00 p.m. Your child must be present for at least 3.25 hours of instructional time to receive credit for the day.
The Farm Folder- Your child will have his/her communication folder in their backpack daily. Please use this folder for any notes for the teacher. You will receive your child's weekly work in their communication folder and any informational flyers or documents that parents need to complete. The folder will go home daily and should be returned to school daily.
Homework- Your child is expected to read their reading group book daily, practice his/her addition and subtraction fact fluency with sums up to 20, and study spelling words. Homework will be optional practice that supports learning we have done in the classroom. A student will only be rewarded for turning in their homework but will never receive a consequence. That being said, having your child practice these important skills at home each night will make a huge difference in the progress they make this year.
Dress Code- Students are encouraged to wear comfortable, clean clothing which is suited for the weather. Shoes should be worn at all times. Caps and hats may not be worn in the building. Please make sure that all shirts or tops meet the waist band. Stomachs should be covered at all times. If children are sent to school in shorts, they should be long enough to completely cover the top of the legs to within two to three inches of the knee. The primary objective of Greenville County Schools (GCS) is to provide a World-Class instructional program and learning opportunity for every student. The personal appearance of every student is an important component of establishing a safe environment for optimal learning and respect for one another. Students are expected to dress in an appropriate manner while on school district property or representing the school. Personal appearance shall be such that it does not disrupt student work or school order, become distracting to other students, or violate health and safety guidelines. Flip-flops (shower-type shoes) are not permitted. No tank tops, spaghetti strap tops, halter-tops, or vests without shirts will be permitted. No see-through or mesh garments may be worn.

Class Mission Statement
Our class mission statement is, Fusco Farmers are kind, respectful, and safe in every way. We try our best and are ready to learn every day.
In this classroom, my first job is to keep students safe. My next job is to ensure everyone is being treated with kindness and respect and to teach the children how to treat others as they want to be treated. My third priority is providing excellent education to my students and ensuring they have all the tools they need for success inside and outside the classroom. It is expected that students try their best no matter what and do not do anything that would prevent the learning of other students in class. Please read the expectations your student is expected to follow below.
Safety
Fusco Farmers must be safe in school. They are not allowed to do anything that could cause harm to others or themselves. This includes walking carefully in the classroom and the hallways and not running, as well as using school supplies in an unsafe manner or getting physical with other students causing them harm. Any physical actions that hurt themselves or other students will immediatly be alerted to administration and parents.
Kindness and Respect
Fusco Farmers must show kindness and respect to their classmates, fellow Bobcats, and all adults they meet. They must choose kind words and show respect by listening as well as responding with respect. In class, your child will have daily social-emotional lessons where we will learn how to be a good friend and kind human to all. We will learn this year how to feel all of our feelings and communicate them respectfully and safely.
Responsibility and Readiness to Learn
Fusco Farmers must be ready to learn. They must try their best in everything they do! No one is expected to get it right the first time and I am here to help! But students must try their best and work hard! Students are expected to not be a distraction to themselves or others. That means not talking or making noises over Ms. Fusco or touching others during instruction time and when their classmates are working. Students are expected to be silent during tests, silent reading, and walking in the hallway. Students may whisper during center work time. Students may raise their hand when I am teaching a lesson.
Behavior Management
First graders are still learning the skills you read above and need grace! Students receive 3 warnings. Please read below to see what follows after 3 warnings are given.
Student & Teacher Conference
I will pull the student aside privately and we will discuss why their behaviors are negatively effecting the class. We will brainstorm some strategies to use to prevent this from happening again.
Silent Lunch and/or No Fun Friday
If students continue to break their class promise after 3 warnings and a 1 on 1 chat, students will have silent lunch where they eat away from their friends and/or no Fun Friday. A parent will be contacted about this behavior by the end of the day.
Recess Laps
If silent lunch or loss of Fun Friday does not help the student to make better choices, students will be told to walk along the pathed part of the playground for their outdoor exercise instead of exercising through playtime with friends. The amount of laps will depend on the amount of warnings and the situation. Recess laps are the last consequence after warnings, silent lunch, and parent contact.
Parent Conference or Principal Intervention
A student who has already been warned 3 times, met with me about their behavior, and had silent lunch and no Fun Friday more than 3 times will result in a conference in person with their parent and teacher and possibly a principal. Of course, if a student is being unsafe or extremely hateful this will result in immediate contact of a principal and parent.
Rewards and Prizes
Class Prizes: The class will have a class reward jar that they can work together to fill. When students fill the jar, they will receive a class reward of their choice, such as a ice cream party, bubble day, special snack, etc. The class can fill their jar by collectively following the rules or receiving a compliment from other teachers or a principal based on their good behavior.
Group Prizes: Students can work with their team table to earn prizes from the prize bin by being active and particpating in class, keeping their table area clean, and being kind to one another. Students can lose points from their team table bucket if they are making poor choices. The team table must earn 10 points by the end of the week to select a prize.
Individual Rewards: Students will have a unique WIG (wildly important goal) that is specific to them only. This goal can be academic or behavior based. When students meet their WIG they will choose from the Celebration Menu.
